Sheesh... this has been one incredibly busy geek.
The last couple of weeks have literally flown by. I have been putting in a lot of hours at work and at church. Not so much time at home. Last night I went home at 6:30 and fell asleep by 9:30. I was tired and I guess I needed it.
However, my brain is back to full charge and has been thinking of some really wild things this morning. Note: no drugs (except for caffeine) were harmed in the expression of these thoughts.
Here are some examples.
1. I have a little portable hard drive. It takes firewire and USB inputs. I decided to see if I could connect it to two computers at once. One using firewire and one using USB. When that worked, I decided to see if I could map a network drive from one computer to the other connecting to that portable hard drive. So basically I have two mappings on my computer pointing to the same hard drive. One local and one networked. Now how many people do you know who would actually think up stuff like that. Better question. How many people do you know would actually do it?
2. I've been working on dynamic reports to go on our system at work. At one point today I was thinking about the headers and thought how funny it would be if I used the Diablo font for the headers of the reports. Maybe no one else would laugh, but I would laugh. And isn't that all that really matters.
Let's see, it's been a long time... what have I been doing?
Church:
We are looking to fill the youth director positions left when our last youth directors left unexpectedly. We've had several interviews of candidates, but we have one who is looking to be tops on our list. Sunday night will be a movie night were he gets to come and meet some of the kids. I'm planning on making the kids watch The Blues Brothers and preface with this thought. God doesn't always call who we expect, but we can count on Him to make the unexpected a reality. Because they are, after all, on a mission from God. Of course part of it may be my own proclivity to share the Blues Brothers gospel, but I think it will be fun. I'm going to take my framed picture of the blues brothers and I want to see if I can find a black hat to wear. I'm a little crazy. Can you tell?
I've also been working on getting quotes and getting things in line to upgrade the A/V system in our youth room. My church is starting a contemporary worship service in the fall and this system will be used by that service as well as our youth. I have one quote and am trying to get another to come in. I have to get all my ducks in a row and talk to the trustees, the finance committee, and the contemporary worship committee themselves. It's become my mission/goal. It's going to happen. Oh yes. It will happen.
Desiree:
For reasons unbeknownst to me, Desiree has decided to stick around for the ride. Though we are both incredibly busy and don't typically get to see each other except on the weekends. This is a record for me. And to be honest, I'm not doing a dang thing to work at it. It just seems to be coming along naturally. I wish I could explain it, but it just seems to defy explanation.
Work:
Yesterday marked 7 months that I've been with Benefit Harbor. I truly enjoy what I do, but things can get awfully hectic in a hurry. Mike started two weeks ago. He's a good enough guy, but seems to have stepped on some toes already. Since he's a 3 month contract to hire, it will be interesting to see what happens.
Last Friday we moved our offices around. I was told to go home at 1:00 so I went out and enjoyed the beautiful day. This monday I came in and found my little cubicle. Mine is quaint, but I'm glad I'm not on the middle row. Those are maybe 4' x 4' cells. One nice thing is that I have an entire wall to decorate to my liking. It doesn't have anything up there right now, but soon... Much Dilbert and hilarity will be clipped.
I suppose that is the major run down. Now I have to return to the fray.
