Wrap Up
Last week Dezi and I were both volunteers at Glen Lake. We had a great week, but hardly saw each other. We were both very busy with the youth in our small group and in our cabins.
I had a good time this week, but one of my favorite moments was standing in the river waiting on the kids who were tubing to reach that point. I just enjoyed nature and everything around me. The wee itself was very interesting. It rained quite a bit, but everything seemed to go fine. But the staffers were desperate enough to put in "Ernest Goes to Camp" for about an hour.
The last night we were there, I walk up to the cabin after our evening devotional to have one of my campers inform me that there is a snake on the portch. I went to check it out and it turned out to be a copperhead. I sent him to find the camp director and then had one of the other counselors take all the youth that were supposed to be in my cabin to one nearby. Most of the guys didn't want to stay in the cabin. They all wanted to come out and see what was going on. When Grant arrived he took a little .22 pistol and made sure the snake wouldn't bother any of the campers.
Yesterday Dezi and I went to church at Grace Avenue and then drove down for her uncle's wedding. On the way we got a call from her mom asking us to see if we could find a cheesecake since she'd had some problems with the one she was making. We stopped at La Madeleine and were lucky enough to find they sold whole cheesecakes. The wedding was short and informal, but everything was fine. They had both been married before so it wasn't as much of a massive event.
So now I have the day off and I'm trying to figure out what to do for Dezi since her birthday is tomorrow. I'll figure something out I'm sure.
