Wedded Bliss
Two weeks ago Dezi and I drove to Houston where I got to take a small part in the wedding of two friends. Josh and Jocelyn were married in a country club in Sugar Land. The ceremony was a little unusual since it incorporated elements of both of their religions. They had a rabbi and a priest officiating. We enjoyed the wedding, but when the time came to do speeches a couple of us were thinking that we really should tell the story of the first days of their relationship. Since we were not allowed to tell the story then I decided I was going to post it here.
Josh and Jocelyn met while they were interning during the summer of '98 at Chevron. This is also the summer that Josh and I were sharing a one bedroom apartment and sleeping on twin sized mattresses on the floor. A couple of us put our heads together and tried to remember the whole story as we saw it from Josh's perspective. If you know Josh you know he likes to exaggerate, so some of this may or may not be true, but it's a fun story regardless.
Josh knew that Chevron had hired two interns. He also knew that the other intern went to school at Texas, but he didn't know if the other intern was male or female. Well ever being the optimist Josh decided to dress a little extra nice for the first day in hopes that it would be a girl. That morning Josh met Jocelyn. They were to share and office and work on the same projects. Josh came home and was very excited. I'm not sure if he was more excited about the girl or the projects they were going to be working on, but he definitely thought the girl was hot.
Over the next couple of weeks they worked together and Josh decided he really wanted to ask Jocelyn out, but he wasn't quite sure how to do it. He came up with a scheme to take her to a Robert Earl Keen concert that weekend, but he wanted it to be casual so told Jocelyn that he happened to have an extra ticket and wanted to know if she'd like to go. When she told him she'd love to go, Josh went out and bought the tickets that afternoon. That Friday Jocelyn asked if Josh would like for her to pay for his ticket. Josh was thoroughly confused as to whether or not it was really going to be a date. He thought it was a date, but now he was confused whether or not she considered it a date. Saturday they spent most of the afternoon at the concert. Josh had been acting like a perfect gentleman, but he really wanted to kiss her. Toward the end of the evening Jocelyn turned to him and asked, "So are you going to kiss me or what?"
And it's been that type of relationship ever since.
Congratulations Josh and Jocelyn. Best wishes. And here's to hoping your kids are nothing like you.
