The Preliminaries are Over
This past weekend, Dezi and I drove to Abilene for my brother's wedding. Jeffrey and Samantha were married in a small ceremony on Friday at my parent's house with my mother acting as the offciant.
Jeff and I spent some quality time Friday afternoon working on preparing food for everyone. We grilled steak and chicken for fajitas. After everyone passed through we still had enough for at least that number again. Kinda funny, but typical at the same time.
Shortly after Jeff and Sam got engaged, I started asking Jeff a bunch of questions and he told me, "You don't understand. If it's complicated it's been nixed!" Two weeks ago he told me, "For something that wasn't supposed to be very complicated it sure became complicated."
The wedding was simple, fun, and very them. Sam cried and then tried to stop crying and started laughing instead. It was fun to watch them. I never thought my mom would make it through without crying, but she was fine. Up until the last minute we were still working out some of the details. Dezi happened to have a CD with wedding music in her car. She played the music and took pictures while I worked the video camera. Everyone ate their fill, talked, laughed and had a generally good time. At the end of the day Jeff and Sam were married and that's all that counts.
My dad pointed out that it was all over that it started at 6:00 and everyone left by 8:00. He's hoping that trend will continue in July. I simply informed him that there wasn't a chance. I believe the two weddings are going to be polar opposites. But the important thing will still be that at the end of the day, I'll go home with my wife.
Now if we can only make it to that point.
