Converting MP3's to Ringtones on Motorola Phones
A while back Dezi and I merged onto one cell phone plan. Since I'm the geek that I am I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a new toy. I got a Motorola Razr while Dezi got a little flip phone.
I had been enjoying the phone, but I wanted to add ringtones, but I didn't want to pay 2 bucks that Cingular will charge per ringtone. I was talking to a buddy at work who has the same phone and happened to hear her christmas ringtone. She told me her husband had taken a selection of her favorite Christmas CD and copied it to her phone. At that point I knew I had to learn how it happened. Since I couldn't find out how to do it on the internet, I had a new project.
I started getting a Bluetooth adapter and downloading a copy of GoldWave. I took a MP3 that I already had and ran it through GoldWave to trim out only the clip that I wanted to copy to the phone. I saved my selection as an MP3 and was ready to copy it to the phone. That was a little bit harder.
Once I had the adapter configured with my laptop, I had to learn how to connect to the phone. I turned on Bluetooth on the phone and then tried to connect from the laptop. It asked me to enter a value to pair against. With that all I had to do was copy the MP3 selection to the device. The folder I needed to copy to was "My Bluetooth Places\Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood\My Cell\OBEX File Transfer\audio".
Once I got that all figured out I spent a couple of hours playing with songs and copying them to my cell phone and to Dezi's. I now have the "Work Song" from Les Miserables as my ringtone. When my boss calls it plays "It's been a hard day's night and I've been working like a dog." Of course I've got the Aggie War Hymn loaded. Who knows what else I'll add later. It's nice to have options though.

Unfortunately we were both roll overs from the AT&T merger. I don't feel Cingular gave us the deal we could have had if we hadn't been in a contract.
So far my Razr has held up very well. I highly recommend it. I've seen negative comments about it, but I'm not sure what they are referring to. One thing that I still intend to get is the bluetooth ear piece. -
What??? No update regarding the toys you got for Christmas???

Another question regarding your Cingular plan:
Were you still under contract from AT&T when you got your phones or had your AT&T contract expired?By , at 5:21 PM

Lisa and I are planning on getting new phones shortly after the start of the year. How does the Razr hold up? What type of a plan did you get from Cingular?
