Happy Thanksgiving.
The Origins of Thanksgiving
Something
else I found while looking for the link above. I haven't read it all, but the line at the bottom made me laugh.
I hope you all get to spend much quality time with the family and you have your fill or turkey or tofu as the case may be. I made a couple of things. Both of mine were really easy. Pink Salad (aka Ambrosia) and a pudding pie. Now the interesting thing is going to be securing them for the trip so the don't tip over with my crazy driving.

ARGH!!!
Disaster has struck. I've had the same set of headphones for the last three years. They are the big oversized headphones with a really long cord and a built in volume adjuster. Well I came back to my desk this morning after checking on something and my headphones are split right down the middle across the top arch. I'm just glad I happened to have a cheap set of headphones in my car.
Sigh.. Oh well. Christmas is coming up. Hint... hint...

I have a lot to say, but nothing will actually come out. I had a really pleasant weekend. We went to
The Melting Pot. It was a little on the pricey side, but I had so much fun figuring out what I wanted to cook next. I found out what a "romulator" is and got to go see
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones at the IMAX. They cut out some scenes, but I didn't realize it until Dezi pointed it out. They cut out the scenes where Amidala and Anakin were rolling around in the grass. I didn't miss it.
I did find out that
The Lion King and
Treasure Planet will be coming to the IMAX soon. I'm thinking some definite Lion King action is in the works.
I finally got all of the cleaning out of my system. I still have little piles of books all over the apartment, but I'll eventually find a place for all of them.
Let's see... what else is going on. Work was really frantic last week, but we got everything in that needed to be in. Thanksgiving is coming up very soon. I'm glad to be able to run around. I'm going to Thanksgiving with paternal side of the Dezi's family on Thursday. I have been told to expect close to 100 people. I'm curious, but I don't know quite what to expect. That's an awful lot of people at Thanksgiving. How do you learn all the names, much less talk to half of them. Friday is Thanksgiving with my mom's side of the family. This is a new thing. I've never done the Thanksgiving thing with each other's family. Take that as you may.
Enough non-sensical rambling. I'm going to go see if I can be productive.

Hmmm... I seem to be caught in a whirling cleaning frenzy. It's really not the best time to have this since I still have Buffy to watch, a computer to build, and clothes to fold. Sigh... my cleaning style is somewhat less than perfect. It involves creating large piles and sorting them into smaller piles. So far I have found all sorts of crazy things in my desk drawer.
Three cable modems. At least one of which I'm sure doesn't work.
Dozens of little Coax cables
At least 100' of Ethernet cable
A whole bunch of driver CDs. Most of which I don't know what they are for anymore.
These are just some of the more geeky items. I got started last week when I realize what a pigsty my apartment was. I started then, but got slowed down by being sick. Very bad. So now I'm back at it again with renewed vigor as I'm working to set up a development box so I can take it to work and replicate the environment. That way I can work at home if I really have to burn the midnight oil and I think I may have to just that this week. Being sick hurt my schedule. Especially since it all has to be done Friday.
So what am I doing posting here? I'm making sure the network is working.

In spite of what appears to be my appearances to the contrary, I'm actually getting a lot done.

This won't make much sense unless you've seen the ring, but Dezi's Mommy sent it to me and I thought it was hilarious. But since this picture was taken about a month ago, I think I'm safe.

Ever had one of those days where you have a nagging premonition. You think something bad is going to happen, but you don't know what.
I'm having one today.

Last night I went to see
The Ring after work. I made the 5:45 matinee showing. The matinee was still $6.00. No wonder I don't go to the movies very often anymore. Anyway. It was pretty good. Definately a good thriller. I had no idea which direction it was going. I didn't like the little boy though. He was almost more creepy than the bad person. Almost.

I watched a really good movie last night. The Majestic with Jim Carry. It's one I may actually go out and get at some point. I was intending on putting some links here, but my connection is running really slow. I'll get them later.
On the other end, I have heard that 8 Miles with Eminem was pretty good. I'm not sure I want to waste my money on it, but I may wait until it comes to the dollar theatre. Of course this is coming from the same source that says that Jackass: The Movie is the funniest movie ever only beside Dumb and Dumber. Well I hated Dumb and Dumber. So I don't think I'll like the other one
Work is going well. It's really hectic at the moment, but that's fine. And they are finally giving me something to challenge me.
I do enjoy a good challenge.
I was thinking this morning that I need to start on my Christmas list. Last year I sat with my palm pilot while I was getting an oil change and listed everything I could think of. Everyone seemed to make a big deal about it. It amused me, but I'd like to do the same thing. I wonder if I can find my list from last year. That might be something fun to post.

I survived another weekend. Though I could use about 10 more hours of sleep.
I had to come in to work Saturday to work on a couple of the servers. I was up here about three hours, but in that time I switched the roles of two of the servers, installed a SCSI card and a tape backup, and scheduled the backups. Not bad.
Saturday night was fun. I went to a friends wedding. One thing I don't understand though... what self-respecting Aggie would schedule a wedding during football season. I missed seeing the second half of Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma, but the wedding was interupted by a cell phone announcing that we had won. Anyway... There were 8 groomsmen and 8 bridesmaids. They had to creativly stack themselves on the steps for everyone to fit. But the wedding was beautiful and Tiffany and Terry looked very happy. There was an awful lot put into the wedding. When we went to the reception, we were there for 2 hours and they hadn't even cut the cake. I wish them the best in their marriage.
That's the highlights of the weekend. I'm proud of my Aggies. Now if they could just beat Texas.

YAY!!! It's pay day. That's a good thing too. It tempers the fact that I was asked to come in this weekend. Actually, I won't say I was asked. He was too diplomatic for that. Instead he said, "This needs to get done as soon as possible, but we can't do it while clients are hitting the server." Which leads to one and only one conclusion. I have to work either late at night or over the weekend.
I don't think it will take long though. I have to back up a couple of servers and then switch them so that the more powerful one is the file server and the whimpy one is the ftp server.
Hmm... what else can I do? I know. I can howl at the moon.

Have you ever had one of those days that just won't end? This is definitely one of those days.
My boss jumped on me because he was in a bad mood. While he had a valid point, he started dragging all this other crap into the mess that he said later "weren't that big a deal." I'm frustrated on many levels. I realize what is/was going on, but it doesn't put me in a better mood. Oh well... tomorrow is another day.
In case you're having a bad day,
here are some crude, but funny movies.

Hmmm... so which of the
Seven Dwarves are you? I'm
Doc, though I can't say that I completely agree with their assessment.
I had a pretty good weekend. Some dancing, some pool playing with a little darts thrown in (pardon the pun). I got to hang out with friends and just relax a bit. Sometimes that's the best thing you can do.
I woke up this morning and knew that I had been dreaming about programming. I'm not sure if that's supposed to disturb me or not. I've checked my computer and I don't seem to have done anything. It would be really funny if I wrote the next killer app in my sleep. But knowing my luck, I'd launch the next big virus. How about that for a defense. I didn't know I was doing it. I was asleep. I don't think they would buy it for a minute.
