Current Brainstorms

I'm trying to think of something funny or profound to talk about. I really don't have anything. It's hard for me to even want to post something on here for some reason. I'm just in a blah mood. It's not that I really have a whole lot going on, but some interesting things have happened and I want to keep track of them.

This weekend, I went to Houston with Desiree (
her thoughts), her parents, her aunt and uncle and their daughter. The primary purpose of the trip was to go see an art exhibit at the
Houston Museum of Fine Arts. The
Dallas Morning News had an
article this weekend. The exhibit was called,
"The Heroic Century."
Ok, with all that said. I'll give my impressions. I'm not an art critic. I usually like what I like purely on whether or not it appeals to me. I don't care if it's famous. I don't care if was by a famous painter. Of all the paintings there, I probably truly enjoyed six of them. I guess it's like casting pearls before swine. I don't know enough to truly appreciate some of what I got to see this weekend. I enjoyed the show and I'm glad I went. But when it got to the abstractionists and some of the more modern art, I really wasn't impressed. One of the paintings I enjoyed the most was by someone I'd never heard of before.
I and The Village by Chagall is the painting on the right. It's much more impressive in person when it's about 5' tall.
That night Dezi and I went to the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Houston. Let me tell you that driving in a city like Houston with bad directions and trying to get around downtown is VERY confusing and even more frustrating. We finally made it to the restaurant. Only about 30 minutes late (and I really hate to be late to anything.) We met Kay and her boy friend Scott who's from the U.K. Lee and Matt (a.k.a. Bubba). We had a good time. I think everyone was hungry. From there we went to play pool at Slick Willies. I've never been in a nicer pool hall. It was really expensive, but we had a good time. Dezi decided later that she would like to learn how to play pool so we may have to get her a kids pool cue and see if she can handle that one better. The house cues were all as tall as she was and she had a hard time getting them to do what she wanted.
Sunday we headed back to Dallas and ran into a monsoon. We made it safely. The whole way down and back we listened to an audio book that I had downloaded. It was
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I'd heard of it before and knew that it was one of the "classic" science fiction novels, but I really enjoyed it. I'm going to have to get
Speaker for the Dead at some point. Maybe I can listen to it too.

My cat oreo has been at the Vet's all week. I've been checking on him periodically to see the status. According to the vet they took the cathiter out yesterday and have been waiting for him to use the little box normally, but appears he's having the exact same problem as when I took him in. They think they'll need to keep him for a few more days and start the process over again. I'm concerned about him and I really don't like the vet bill that's piling up, but what can you do?
I saw the new Matrix movie last night. I enjoyed it. I'd heard horrible things about it, but I enjoyed it for what it was. They glossed over some critically important details, but I figure most of that will be addressed in some 4 hour release at a later time.

This is just too cool. I want. But I wonder if I'd ever use it.

I called my own personal strike today. I have a ton of work I need to do at the office, but I am feeling very burnt out. I've been going for what seems like forever. My plans for the entire weekend were to be as lazy as possible. Unfortunately "as lazy as possible" constitutes running sound for 3.5 hours at church on Sunday night and Friday night. A trip into the office on Saturday and carrying out those little things that always seem to pile up when you're out of the house as much as I am. Hence, the strike. I needed some exclusive alone time. I feel like I've been dragging even though I get plenty of sleep. Today with the exception of a trip to the Vets office for Oreo and a call from my work, my day has been exceptionally quite and undisturbed.
I had to take Oreo to the vet's office because he was displaying symptoms similar to our experiences in
January. I took him to a new vet that is relatively close. I'll check on him some time tomorrow. But they are going to do the same things and put him on a more restrictive diet. Oh well... He's not happy and I wish I could fix it. I'll just have to keep watching him. He's staying there for the next several days. I'm supposed to go to Houston this weekend. I guess I'll see how well he feels when he gets home.
A whole lot has happened that I haven't even commented on here. I moved into my new swanky apartment. The movers were really funny. There was the one little guy that would carry stuff that looked much to big for him, but he'd put it on his shoulder and bend his head funny to carry it. He carried my love seat and recliner that way. I bet the chiropractors would love to get hold of him. The new apartment is very nice. I'm still unpacking bits and pieces at a time, and it's a real hassle when I'm trying to find something and I have to go through everything that's still not put up. Over all I'm very pleased. I just wish I could waive a wand and make everything put itself into the proper place.
On Halloween I went out with a bunch of friends. We went to a party at the Village Country Club where
Keri and
Christi competed in the costume contest. I thought they had great costumes, but the crowd was pretty lame. It was supposed to be by audience noise level, but the guy who want was the Hamburgler competing against the Macho Man "Randy Savage." The Macho Man got more applause, but the judge gave it to the Hamburglar. I think the contest was rigged. Oh, what do I care. Keri posted pictures in her
gallery. I was
Jake Blues by the way.
Can you see the resemblance?
This weekend the youth held a coffee house to help raise funds for the mission trips they are going to participate in this summer. I don't' know the final figures, but I think it looks pretty good.
I think I'll go and enjoy this cold rainy day. Perhaps with a viewing of
Finding Nemo. Or maybe I'll splurge and treat myself to dinner and a movie. I still haven't seen the new Matrix. I've heard bad things, but I still want to go see it.
Dezi's still fine. She helped with the show Friday night and Sunday night. Sunday night after it was over, I was playing DJ and playing some 80's music. Love Shack by the B52's came on and Dezi decided to go to town on the drum set we have a the church. I thought it was hallarious to see the expressions on Bob and Logan's faces when she realized she was really playing and that this little twig of a girl could rock on the drum set. Bob's question was, "Did she play in High School? Why isn't she playing for us?" My response, she's still playing at church and in a band and she plays at her own contemporary service.

YAY!!! I'm sitting at my home computer and I actually have internet access. Amazing. Absolutely Amazing. I've been after these guys for 3 weeks now to come get me hooked up. I finally just started being a pain in the rear and they finally came and took care of it.
Now it's time to return to work where our mild mannered nerd undergoes and amazing transformation and becomes Wonder Boy. Way too much to do today. But I finally got one thing working like I wanted it to.
