Calm before the storm
I have been working like a mad man this week. I've been working hard to get enough done so that I won't worry about my task list while I take a week off. My schedule has been really odd. I'll work in the morning. Usually take some part of the afternoon off and work late into the night.
Tomorrow night Dezi and I are going to attend Braden and Heather's wedding. My family moved in across from Braden and his parents when I was three and we've been friends since. I'm glad I'll be there to see him get married. The ceremony is at the same place they got engaged, but a duck pond in Abilene. Last time I saw them I threatened to bring a bag of bread and throw crumbs under Heather's dress. I think I'm the only one who was laughing at the mental image.
Next week Dezi and I will be adult volunteers at
Glen Lake. I've done this for the last two years, but this will be a first for Dezi. I'm excited about the week and the possibilities that lie ahead for all of us next week. Please pray for those campers who come looking for something. I hope they find what they are looking for.

Being anti productive
Some friends from A&M came in town this weekend and we had a chance to go hang out with them. After playing a game of guess that restraunt we had dinner at a great little italian restraunt and then went to play Putt-Putt. After realizing that we are never going to make it on the PGA tour Mark and I decided to go ride go carts while Dezi and Susan talked wedding stuff. We had a good time and spent most of the evening just talking. I'm glad I got to see them.

Working from Home
My company is probably the most reactive group I have ever seen. We had been talking about moving offices for about 3 months. As it came down to the set date of June 15th it looked like we weren't going to get into the office space we were negotiating by that date. That pushed everything back. Especially since if we have a hard wired T1 line, it takes 30-60 days for it to be installed by the phone company, and we couldn't put in the request until we had a lease.
All of this is to say the move was in question. Yesterday we got pulled into an office and are told that we are supposed to pack up and have our desks ready to occupy by 2:00 that afternoon. We can't move into the new space because the lease isn't officially signed yet, but they had other people moving in today. So we are all working from home for the next few days. Maybe we'll get into the office by Wednesday. They decided on a wireless T1 line instead of hardwired line and they can do that much quicker.
So now I'm sitting at home surrounded by computers and coding away. I could get used to this.

Due diligence
You know, there are some days when you just don't want to do anything and you're not quite sure what it is that you want to do. Today is one of those days.
I have been spending a lot of time over the last few weeks learning Linux. I've been learning how to copy files from windows to Linux and vice versa. I've also learned how to remotely control a Linux server using something called
VNC.
I've really become research boy over the last two weeks. We are getting ready to move our production servers to Linux, but none of us is really well versed in the subject. Since I like to figure things out I have been tasked with making it work and then writing up how I did it. It's been a nice break, but I'm ready to get back to coding.
I have found some real useful tools for Linux.
WinSCP is a useful file transfer utility. It uses SSH to transfer files, but you don't have to be running an FTP server on the computer you are trying to connect to. If you use it in combination with
PuTTY you have a file transfer with a terminal in one application.
I visited a new church over the weekend. It was their first Sunday in their new building.
Grace Avenue United Methodist Zeke had recommended it when we visited at Jamie's wedding. I enjoyed the service, but since I've run sound before, I noticed all the little hickups. Dezi said I must have liked it if I was picking it apart. I thought his
sermon was fun. He talked about
The Real World,
The Velveteen Rabbit,
The Apprentice and tied it all into the story of the
prodigal son.

Wedding planning
We went to Jamie and Brady's wedding yesterday. I got to see several peole I haven't talked to in forever. When I got a chance to talk to Jamie she asked me about our wedding plans. She then told me that she highly recommended eloping. I had to walk her across the room to get her to tell Dezi the same thing.
