Something useless

Our new offices have been set up, but some of our servers are still back at the old office.  They are supposed to be moved this weekend, but in the mean time we have to VPN back to that office.  One serious draw back to this is that one one person from this office can connect to the VPN.  If a second person connects, they kick the first one off.  Since our code server is back at the old office, if someone is checking out files we have to wait until they are done to connect and grab more files.  So now I'm third in line to connect to the server.  While I'm waiting I figured I would do something completely useless.

I've rearranged my office today.  Run virus scan.  Not sure what else I'm going to do to keep myself out of trouble.  Hmmm... Maybe I should just go home.

Sigh

I know I have been very remiss in keeping my page updated lately.

The last six weeks Benefit Harbor has been working out of our perspective homes.  I've had a very large project to keep me busy.  We finally signed the lease space in our new offices.  The internet connection was set up today and we are moving the servers up from our old offices.

We had originally intended to move into some space the middle of June, but the people who had been intending to lease it decided at the very last minute they didn't want to move.  The locks had already been changed and they had key cards for us.  Plans had been made for the space we were to have vacated, so we still had to vacate that space without having anywhere to move to.

While my professional life has been very interesting Dezi and I have been keeping busy with the youth at Coppell.  Friday night was a lock-in at the church.  Dezi and several of her female family members plus maid of honor Heather attended a giant Wedding Show on Saturday.  I had planned to go and be a good boy, but sleep won out.  I went home and crashed all day Saturday.

Wonderful Weekend

I had a great weekend. Saturday was a lazy night. We just watched Alex and Emma and ate Italian food from Luigi's.

Saturday Dezi and I drove down to College Station for a good friends wedding. Mark and Susan were kind enough to let us stay with them. All four of us went to the wedding. I really enjoyed getting to talk to people I haven't seen in a while. The reception was a lot of fun and Dezi and I have come up with our own ideas to add to it.

After the reception we ran back to their place to change and then loaded up again to go to the Wolfpen Creek Amphitheater. The College Station Parks and Rec. was having a free concert featuring the Texas Twisters and The Dave Mathews Cover Band. Kevin had saved us lawn space and Sesalee met us at the entrance. George showed up a little bit later. Both groups were great. The Twisters were a good party band. Dezi said she enjoyed them best because she knew the music. I loved the DMCB. The musicianship was phenomenal. It was a great evening and the weather was perfect.

None of us had really had dinner so by the time the concert let out at 11:00 we were all pretty hungry. We headed over to IHOP to partake.

The next morning Dezi and I headed back to Dallas. I was in charge of the youth Sunday night. We were going to go to Putt-Putt, but I had not drawn up the map or called the place. I expected a small number since a lot of them were going on a trip that left Friday, but we only had 6 youth show up. We still had a good time.

Prayer Request

I didn't think there was anything that could shock me about my old church anymore. I unfortunately was wrong. I learned of something tonight that has shaken me to the core. I ask for your prayers (or caring thoughts) to be directed toward the church leaders, the parents, and especially the youth.

Wrap Up

Last week Dezi and I were both volunteers at Glen Lake. We had a great week, but hardly saw each other. We were both very busy with the youth in our small group and in our cabins.

I had a good time this week, but one of my favorite moments was standing in the river waiting on the kids who were tubing to reach that point. I just enjoyed nature and everything around me. The wee itself was very interesting. It rained quite a bit, but everything seemed to go fine. But the staffers were desperate enough to put in "Ernest Goes to Camp" for about an hour.

The last night we were there, I walk up to the cabin after our evening devotional to have one of my campers inform me that there is a snake on the portch. I went to check it out and it turned out to be a copperhead. I sent him to find the camp director and then had one of the other counselors take all the youth that were supposed to be in my cabin to one nearby. Most of the guys didn't want to stay in the cabin. They all wanted to come out and see what was going on. When Grant arrived he took a little .22 pistol and made sure the snake wouldn't bother any of the campers.

Yesterday Dezi and I went to church at Grace Avenue and then drove down for her uncle's wedding. On the way we got a call from her mom asking us to see if we could find a cheesecake since she'd had some problems with the one she was making. We stopped at La Madeleine and were lucky enough to find they sold whole cheesecakes. The wedding was short and informal, but everything was fine. They had both been married before so it wasn't as much of a massive event.

So now I have the day off and I'm trying to figure out what to do for Dezi since her birthday is tomorrow. I'll figure something out I'm sure.
