Things I want to learn
I came to a realization this last week. For the last 3 and a half years I have not received any formal training. I decided to go ask this week if they would let me take some time off to get some professional training. I was told that I could teach myself from books and internet and they didn't want to (1) pay for training and (2) afford for me to be out of the office. I was also told this is something I'm expected to do on my own. The problem is that working 60 hours a week makes it incredibly hard to find that kind of time.
It's recently come to me how much I have been lacking in some of the new technologies. I was listing the things I would like to learn more about. It all makes me sound quite geeky, but you know... I am a geek. Here are some of the things I'd like to learn about. For myself if no one else. Unfortunately it's not until now that I have realized how far behind I'm starting.
Struts
EJBs - Enterprise Java Beans
RMI - Remote Method Invocation
JSPs - Java Server Pages
Ruby on Rails
JSF - Java Server Faces
.Net
A great resource that I have started with is Bruce Eckel's site and books on Thinking in Java. Now all I have to do is find time in my hectic schedule. For myself.
