Today's the Day!

David and I are getting married today!!! I am so excited!!! I didn't sleep a whole lot last night, but I did sleep more than I expected, so yay!

Last night was our rehearsal. Holly had taken the ribbons from my three showers and not only made a practice bouquet for me, but also had practice bouquets for the bridesmaids! We had a good time and learned what exactly we will do today. Now it's just a matter of remembering!

At the rehearsal dinner, we got to hears lotsa great David & Dezi stories. It's so neat to look around the table and see our closest friends, as well as our families. We laughed, we cried, we ate Italian food!

Afterwards, I went to Starbucks with Becky, Heather, Holly & Ian. I hadn't seen Ian in a couple of years. So I had to show him the ring, of course. After drinking my frappuccino (decaf) and sharing lotsa funny stories about our old high school and band, I made my way home. I saw the pictures from rehearsal and dinner (and will post them after the honeymoon!), and talked to David on the phone.

That brings me to today! I'll spend the morning getting my hair done, and will get makeup done early afternoon. Then it'll be time to head to the church! I can't wait to see everyone, it's so exciting! See you at St. Andrew!

Get Me to the Church On TIme

by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe

I'm getting married in the morning
Ding dong the bells are gonna chime
Pull out the stopper, let's have a whopper
But get me to the church on time

I've got to be there in the morning
Spruced up and looking in my prime
Girls come and kiss me, show how you'll miss me
But get me to the church on time

If I am dancing, roll up the floor
If I am whistling, *whew* me out the door

For I'm getting married in the morning
Ding dong the bells are gonna chime
Kick up a rumpus, but don't lose the compass
And get me to the church, get me to the church
Be sure and get me to the church on time

I'm getting married in the morning
Ding dong the bells are gonna chime
Stock me or jail me, stamp me and mail me
But get me to the church on time

I've got to be there in the morning
Spruced up and looking in my prime
Some bloke who's able, lift up the table
But get me to the church on time

If I am flying, then shoot me down
If I am wooing, get her out of town

For I'm getting married in the morning
Ding dong the bells are gonna chime
Feather and tar me, call out the army
But get me to the church, get me to the church
Be sure and get me to the church on time

Girls' Day Out

As I mentioned on my web site, Heather and I got manicures and pedicures yesterday. After running around a bit, we picked up Holly, then went up to the church. The girls wanted to practice walking down the aisle in their shoes. I brought my shoes also, and we popped into the bathroom and donned our shoes and practiced. They were humming my wedding processional as I practiced walking, it was cute.

We had a fun evening. We laughed, we cried and remembered good times we had. Every time we would do something, Holly would say something like,"This is the last time you'll eat at this restaurant as a single person." or "This is the last time we'll be in the car listening to this song before you get married".

We also played "Chapel of Love" as we were driving around, sang along, and also practiced an a cappella version, complete with harmony. A good time was had by all!

Now if I could just get some sleep, life would be good....

Father of the Bride

I took my dad out to Marble Slab for some father/daughter bonding. We laughed, we cried, we had a great talk. I had saved a Cathy comic strip from January, where she and her dad went out for ice cream on the Sunday before her wedding. Since he particularly likes Marble Slab, I decided that we should go out for ice cream and I'd give him the comic strip.

Afterwards we came home and watched what else but Father of the Bride, (the Steve Martin version). It's totally different watching it days before our wedding. We had a great time, and it is something that I will remember for a long time.

One Week to Go!

This has really gone by fast! One week from today, David and I will be married! Isn't it great? As I've said before, I'm excited about being married to David. He's not only my fiance, he's my best friend. I am really looking forward to starting our lives together as husband and wife.

Tonight, Heather and I had a night out. We had dinner with David and Heather's younger brother Ryan, before they ventured off to a celebrity baseball game in Frisco. Then she and I went to my house, so we could pick out possible cruise outfits. I have several casual dresses, or casual skirt outfits that would be cute. I also have some nice, formal dresses from high school that I can wear, too. One dress that I know for sure that is coming with us is my new pink dress!

After selecting my cruise wardrobe, we went to Kohl's to find a rehearsal dinner outfit for Heather. Well, we found a really, really cute outfit for her. I was also excited to find great shoes that went with her outfit. Now she'll be stylin' for the rehearsal! The next task is to figure out what I'm going to wear.

The whole evening, Heather and I would occasionally say,"Wow, the wedding is a week from today!" or some other comment about how I'm getting married! She rehearsed part of her rehearsal dinner and wedding reception speeches. Which totally made both of us cry. She said that she started working on her speech right after we got engaged, wow! I know it's going to be great, and we'll have a blast. And hopefully not cry too much!

We're Official!!

This morning, David and I met up at the Denton County Government Center this morning to apply for our marriage license. About five minutes later, we had our official marriage license. Yay!!! Now we can get married, I'm really excited about it!

Welcome to Insanity!

Lots to report on today! Thursday evening, David and I met with Chris, our videographer! We met up at the church, so he could see it and decide where he wanted to set up his equipment. He has some really great video equipment and software, and I am really excited about the video!

Last week, we were working on sending the marriage announcements to local newspapers. I thought it would be easy, since it could all be done online. NOT!!! One website was down, one didn't receive my entry, and the other one actually did go through, so yay! We wound up mailing one in, and I received word that it was received. Now we're just waiting on the third paper. I was e-mailed a proof of one of the announcements, and it looked really, really great!

What else...David and I have our second (and final!) meeting with Billy on Thursday. Then we'll go get the marriage license on Friday. Then, next Monday, I'll have my final meeting with the wedding coordinator at St. Andrew, to go over last minute stuff. Next Thursday, a group of us are going to the reception place to set up the centerpieces and decorations. Then the family will start arriving and the celebration will start!

As the wedding date approaches, several people have asked David and I if we're getting nervous. At least for me, the answer is yes and no. I am getting very excited about being married to David. I look forward to seeing all the people that have come to celebrate our day with us! The way I feel is kind of how I used to feel around the first day of school, excited, but a little nervous about not knowing what was to come. I am not as nervous as I thought I would be at this time, but the answer might be different this time next week. I do know that I am ready for the day to be here when I can say goodnight to David and be in the same room! Won't that be great? I think so!

Suds and Sounds

Yesterday I met Dezi's mother at our reception site to go over some things with the caterer and the office management. My actual responsibility was to take place afterwards, but the meeting was informative. I'd heard most of it before, but they ironed out the details. Dezi's father was supposed to be there to iron out the drinks menu, but he got stuck at work. Instead it was her mother and I trying to decide what brand names we recognized and circle them. I have no idea if we picked well or not.

We ran over and looked at the sound system and what it would take to plug my laptop in as the DJ station. I thought it was funny that I had to show the girl how to unplug certain connections so I could plug in. There are still some issues to work out in that arena, but I think everything seems to be operating smoothly. Dezi and her mother have done a fabulous job of planning everything out and getting all the right people on board.

He would play man!

I finished an mp3 playlist for the reception. It's quite funny. I have enough to cover the entire event in case the band doesn't show up. I guess it's better to have too much than too little.

Now I have to wrap up the special music CD. We know what our song will be and Dezi and her Dad settled on a song for them, but I keep going round and round on what my mom will dance to. I didn't want it to be too fast, but a lot of the slower songs are all about romantic love and not necessarily paternal love. Dezi and I finally picked something last night that I think my mom will like.

And I do what with this?

I've spent most of the morning cleaning my apartment. I'm trying to consolidate as much as possible since Dezi has started moving a few of her things over a little bit at a time. The first place I thought I would start is in the "Gift Corner" where we've put all the wedding presents/shower gifts that we've received. Well the corner has consumed the whole breakfast nook and is threatening the kitchen with it's eye on the living room next. I'm managed to return it to only consuming one corner, but through several people's generosity it's a very large corner.

Back to cleaning. I've found myself questioning a couple of things this morning. The use of tissue in packing and cooking instruments.

Now about this tissue thing. I found a couple of giant bags that contained nothing but tissue when I finally crawled my way to the bottom of the bag. This giant thing had been consuming massive amounts of space, but only contained wadded up paper and air. Doesn't sound quite right does it? And why use tissue? One thing that came to mind is that they could use it to dab their eyes if they started crying at whatever special occasion it was for. But of course that tissue wouldn't do and they would have to break out a special box of a different type or tissue leaving us with the original problem. Tissue... Lots of tissue.

After successfully filling a lawn bag sized trash sack full of tissue I started moving into the realm of pots and pans. Now I'm someone who's comfortable in the kitchen. I will admit that my cooking vocabulary is rather limited, but I have been known to experiment with my own creations. (Whole different and equally amusing story.) When I unwrapped some of the pots and pans I found myself scratching my head and wondering was that was for. No I'm not talking about the pot and the lid. I can figure that part out. I'm talking about some strainer that fits inside another strainer. And this scoop looking thing that has a handle and some insert that goes along with it. Maybe I'll let Dezi tell me what they are for.

Three Weeks to Go!

Wow, that is hard to believe! We are almost there!

Last night was my bachelorette party! A group of us met up at Paint Yer Pottery, to celebrate! We all had a great time visiting and painting. Some of us went afterwards to Starbucks, then the bridesmaids all went back to the Martin household. Pictures are up on my photo page.

We all had tiaras to wear once we got to the house. Mine was gold, the others were silver. We drank soft drinks out of wine glasses and worked on our scrapbook. We also had popcorn and cookies to snack on as we worked. The scrapbook is coming along very nicely!

This morning we ate a wonderful breakfast and watched some chick flicks. It may not have been the wildest of bachelorette parties, but it was wonderful and exactly what I wanted! Thank you girls who were able to come!
